Community Cultural Awareness Training (CAT)
MRC North delivers professional development cultural awareness training (CAT) to companies, organisations and local businesses and community groups, to support greater cultural awareness and understanding.
The Cultural Awareness Training Program enables participants to:
- Develop a greater understanding of Australia’s humanitarian program
- Work equitably with people who arrive under Australia’s humanitarian program
- Gain confidence in accessing and working with interpreters, and
- Help confront some of the contemporary challenges faced by people resettling in Launceston.
Module 1. MRC Services and Volunteer Opportunities
An overview of the core programs and services of MRC North, and the multiple and diverse opportunities for volunteers.
Module 2. People and Processes
An overview of the bureaucratic and procedural challenges people face to gain eligibility for Australia’s Humanitarian Program.
Module 3. How to work with People
An overview of working with people who arrive under Australia’s Humanitarian Program, from a human rights perspective.
Module 4. Working with Interpreters
An overview of accessing the Translation and Interpreting Service (TIS National) including demonstrations on how to work with interpreters.
