MRC is a registered not for profit organisation with a Deductible Gift Recipient status and a public benevolent institution.

MRC offers a range of services and support to humanitarian entrants, migrants and culturally and linguistically diverse communities in northern Tasmania.

Its mission is to provide resources, leadership and advocacy, so that culturally and linguistically diverse people can contribute to the social, economic and cultural development of the community.

In order to fulfil our mission and provide sustainable services, we are seeking donations for a number of our programs or maintaining current community facilities.

Where will your money go?

Youth Tutoring Program:

The Tutoring Program is one of the most valued programs at MRC.

The Program runs three sessions per week during the school term, with up to 20 students actively engaging in the Program each week.

The Program recruits volunteer tutors to offer academic support to students with varying levels of English proficiency. Students come from a number of local high schools and secondary colleges, and participate in the Program voluntarily.

The volunteers play an important role in keeping the Program active. Many appreciate the opportunity to meet people from different cultural backgrounds and join the Program to ‘give back ‘ to the community. The volunteers are retired or semi-retired professionals, senior students from boarding schools and university students.

Student Scholarship Program:

MRC has awarded scholarships to secondary school students who demonstrate a commitment to study in pursuit of their career aspirations. The scholarship funds are put towards educational expenses, such as text books or tuition fees.

Haig Community Space:

Migrant Resource Centre owns the Haig Community Space, a community hall located in Launceston’s northern suburbs. The Space has recently undergone extensive refurbishments, and is now an expanded facility that provides an attractive venue for community groups to conduct their activities and programs.
