Citizenship is the cornerstone of belonging and acceptance. Permanent residents can currently apply for Australian Citizenship after they have lived in Australia for four years.

Australian citizens have the right to vote in Federal, State and Territory elections and in a referendum.  They can work in the Australian Public Service or in the Defense Forces, seek election to Parliament, apply for a passport and re-enter Australia freely.
